Get to know US!

Forty years ago, the Macedonian Folk Ensemble Ilinden was established by visionary founders, including Vlado Šukovski, Kole Kožovski, and Ǵorǵija Goce Damevski, its first president, alongside the pivotal contributions of Toni Markovski, Vilma Džiamarko, choreographer Vlasto Petkovski, and Ljupčo Dimovski. What began as a passion project by lovers of Macedonian folklore in 1985 has since blossomed into a vibrant cultural institution. Over the decades, the ensemble has grown in both age and size, reflecting the rich heritage of Macedonia while adapting to new generations.

Today, Ilinden is comprised of three distinct groups: the junior ensemble, nurturing the youngest talents; the transitional group, where dancers refine their skills in preparation for the senior level; and the senior ensemble, home to seasoned performers who bring Macedonian traditions to life with artistry and pride. Each group plays a vital role in preserving folklore, dance, and music, fostering community and continuity across generations.

Our Mission

Macedonian Folklore Ensemble Ilinden is dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich cultural heritage of Macedonia through traditional dance, music, and storytelling. Based in Mississauga, our ensemble brings together passionate performers of all ages to celebrate and promote Macedonian folklore, fostering a sense of community and cultural pride among Macedonians in Canada and beyond.

Our Vision

Our vision is to be a vibrant cultural ambassador, uniting generations through the beauty of Macedonian folklore. We strive to inspire appreciation for our traditions by showcasing authentic music, dance, and attire, ensuring that our heritage remains alive and thriving for future generations. Through performances, education, and community engagement, we aim to strengthen cultural identity and foster a deeper connection between Macedonians in Canada and their ancestral roots.
